How does CarbonCool® differ from ice packs?
HypoCarbon® is specified at 35 W/mK, compared with 2.3 W/mK for frozen water. The 15× figure compares material conductivity, not clinical cooling rate. In the Full Body Suit™, frozen MPads are positioned at the torso and thighs.
How long do MPads stay ready for use?
The prepared system can remain operationally ready in the CarbonCool® Bag for up to 12 hours. This is transport readiness, not continuous treatment duration. For longer treatment, replace MPads with freshly frozen units according to protocol.
Can the system be used with cardiac monitoring or defibrillation?
Plan pad placement and chest access within the clinical protocol, and follow the instructions for every device in use. Contact the clinical support team when validating a local workflow.
Clinical use
Can CarbonCool® be used during patient transport?
The portable system can remain on the patient during field or hospital transport. MPads must be frozen before deployment, no electricity is required during cooling, and core temperature requires a separate appropriate monitoring device.
What cooling rate can we expect?
Published and field reports include 7.2°C/hr and 0.12°C/min. Results depend on the patient, starting temperature, environment and protocol. Review each study design and limitation before applying a figure to your setting. Sources: Tan et al., 2017; SAF/DSO field study; Tan et al., 2017.
What are the contraindications?
The instructions for use list: Skin diseases, Bedsore, Inflammation, Burns or other skin injuries. Additional precautions apply, including skin checks and appropriate core temperature monitoring. Review the complete safety information before use.
Procurement
What regulatory clearances does CarbonCool® have?
CarbonCool® is registered or cleared in 10 markets, including the United States (FDA 510(k)) and the European Union (CE, MDR). See the Regulatory page for each market and its identifiers.
How should we assess total cost of ownership?
Include the suit, MPads and holders, freezer preparation, training and replacement planning. Cooling itself needs no electricity or ice, and the system has no mechanical maintenance. Request a facility-specific comparison rather than relying on a generic saving estimate.
What training is required?
CarbonCool® is for trained medical personnel. Training should cover sizing, application, frozen MPad handling, skin checks, core temperature monitoring, cleaning and the local clinical protocol. Contact support to plan product education.
